LAF is developing an emergency transition system for 2-person couplers

On many networks, passenger train operators have transition couplers to enable immobilized vehicles to be towed. These transition couplers must be handled by a minimum of agents and meet many technical requirements to ensure the function of the traction unit safely.

In Asia, a LAF client uses fallback transitions requiring 3 agents for handling and set-up. Given the operational constraints, this obligation to mobilize 3 people posed a serious problem in the event of a breakdown and had a negative impact on performance.

LAF’s technical teams have therefore developed a transitional solution whose mass has been reduced by 33% and which makes it possible to mobilize only 2 people while retaining the required characteristics.
